Newborn Session Prep

Where will my newborn session take place?

Your session will take place at my private studio. The address is

2417 University Dr N
Fargo, ND 58102

My phone number should you need it is 701-429-7818

How long does a newborn session last?

Typically newborn sessions last anywhere from 2-4 hours (1-2 hours for a mini session). This allows plenty of time for feeding/nursing, changing set-ups and calming/nursing baby back to sleep between set-up changes.

What do I need to bring?

You do not need to provide clothing for your baby’s photo session. I have plenty of hats/headbands/pants/wraps to use for the photo shoot, so nothing is required.

Sometimes parents chose to bring a special hat or blanket to use in the photos and that is certainly welcomed.

When do I feed my baby?

A full tummy is always best before a photo shoot. A well fed baby will give you a content, sleepy, little one, ready to pose for the camera.

I usually recommend feeding 2-3 hours before your session and again right before you leave for the studio and then we will add any needed feedings throughout the session to top off baby.

Be sure to bring an extra couple bottles if you have them and there will be plenty of time for nursing as well.

Will my baby be cold?

Nope! Keeping room temperature in mind is important for baby’s photo shoot. Your baby will be more comfortable with a warmer temperature.

A warm baby will curl up and pose for a picture perfect session. I usually say if the adults are sweating then the baby is comfortable so dress light or in layers.

Anything else I need to bring?

One important item to bring is a pacifier.

I will use your pacifier to sooth baby if needed while posing them. The all rubber kind are my personal preference as they slide out of their mouth easier and don’t leave impression marks on their cheeks. I understand if you do not wish to use a pacifier, but it may be harder to transition your baby between poses.

Also, don’t forget the essential baby supplies such as bottles, burp cloths, diapers and wipes...but if you do forget, I have all these supplies at the studio, so don't worry!

Can siblings be involved? (Included full Sessions)

Including older brother/sister(s) in your newborn’s portraits is the perfect way to document this fleeting time in your lives. Neutral tops and dresses work best for girls and a snug pair of jeans and a neutral or light colored top is great for boys!

So, here’s how it works with siblings. Typically if your baby falls asleep on the way here and I can get them out of the car seat and in a couple of poses I will do that first. If baby comes to the studio awake or wakes up during posing, I will typically swaddle them up and then go into sibling poses. So it might vary on when it’s their turn. If you have a preference you can certainly let me know, some siblings have a limited attention span and I get it!

There is a room connected to the newborn area that has a TV and DVD player, snacks and coloring books to keep them entertained.

Can parents be involved? (Included full Sessions)

Mom and Dad, you are a big part of the show too! Photographing the connection between you and your baby is so beautiful. Neutral or solid color tops work best. Also, rest assured, I aim to photograph using flattering angels and light to bring out the natural beauty in your family.
